RACING for four seasons, Bangkok displayed soundness and consistency, and his first foals on the ground this spring are hugely anticipated by Dahlbury’s Simon Davies who owns the son of Australia (Galileo).

In the first four on all of his starts at two, Bangkok opened his account at three when he beat Telecaster over 10 furlongs in a maiden at Doncaster. He put himself in the classic picture with victory over Technician in the Group 3 Classic Trial at Sandown, and while he failed to shine at Epsom, he bounced back quickly and chased Japan home in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A 500,000gns yearling purchase, Bangkok was owned by King Power Racing and trained by Andrew Balding. He followed up his early season efforts by finishing second to Zaaki in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes at York and he ended his second season racing with a runner-up spot in the Listed Qatar Derby.

At four he put up a best performance of the season when winning the Listed Winter Derby Trial, and he was third afterwards in the Group 3 Winter Derby itself. The best was yet to come and Bangkok was kept in training at five. His three wins included a second Winter Derby Trial, but his recorded his biggest career success over 10 furlongs at York, landing the Group 2 York Stakes,

Bangkok was supported in his first year at stud by King Power Racing, who sent him a number of mares, a huge endorsement for the horse.

His achievements on the racecourse are befitting a horse with such an outstanding pedigree. His sire Australia is one of the best-bred horses at stud, being a son of a multiple champion and out of the brilliant racemare Ouija Board (Cape Cross). He has made a great start at stud with Group and Grade 1 winners Ocean Road, Broome, Mare Australis, Galileo Chrome and Order Of Australia already showing what he is capable of doing.

Bangkok’s dam line is no less impressive. He is one of 11 winners for the stakes-placed Tanaghum (Darshaan), and that list includes Group 1 winner Matterhorn (Raven’s Pass), Group 3 winner Tactic (Sadler’s Wells), stakes winners Yaazy (Teofilo) and Perotan (Churchill), and one of last year’s most improved juveniles and a classic hope this year, The Foxes (Churchill).

In addition to breeding these impressive winners, Tanaghum’s stakes-placed daughter Zahoo (Nayef) is the dam of a pair of group winners, Convergence (Cape Cross) and another leading two-year-old of 2022, Group 2 Vintage Stakes hero Marbaan (Oasis Dream).

Even Tanaghum’s unplaced daughter Mujarah (Marju) cannot be omitted, as she is responsible for the multiple Group 1 winning miler Ribchester (Iffraaj).

Tanaghum is a daughter of the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Mehthaaf (Nureyev), and she bred an Italian champion in Group 2 winner Najah (Nashwan). Mehthaaf’s half-brother was the champion sprinter Elnadim (Danzig), and there are a plethora of stallions under the third dam Elle Seule (Exclusive Native). They mostly descend from her dual Group 1-winning daughter Occupandiste (Kaldoun), and include Group 1 winners Mondialiste (Galileo) and Intello (Galileo).
