GOFFS will host three busy days of sales next week, starting with a day of horses in training on Tuesday, and followed by two days of yearlings.

The best known graduate of the Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale in recent years has been Twilight Payment. The future Melbourne Cup winner was owned by Godolphin when he arrived at this sale in 2018 and was knocked down to Kerr & Co Ltd for €200,000.

Perhaps this year’s star will be Gustavus Weston, already the winner of a Group 2 race for trainer Joseph Murphy and a reliable sort in many of Ireland’s top sprints for the past three seasons.

There are also drafts from Aga Khan Studs, Ado McGuinness, Ballylinch Stud, Baroda Stud, Joseph O’Brien, Gavin Cromwell, Johnny Murtagh, Willie McCreery, Ross O’Sullivan, The Castlebridge Consignment, Fozzy Stack and Noel Meade.

Listowel winner Star Of Cashel and last Sunday’s Curragh handicap winner Coins Cross also catch the eye among the entries.

Nine horses were added to the Horses-In-Training catalogue this week. They include the Group 3-placed and five-time winner Strong Johnson from Beechcourt Stables, a pair of two-year old half-brothers to Group 3-winning and placed horses from The Castlebridge Consignment, and winning National Hunt prospects Appian Way and Ballinlough Gale.

Some 27 supplementary lots were added to the Autumn Yearling Sale last week. They include a number of yearlings eligible for next year’s valuable Goffs Million and Sportsman’s Challenge races.

Among the notable pedigrees are a half-sister to stakes winner Danehill Destiny, a colt from the family of Broome, and a half-sister to two-year-old listed winner Orlaith.

Yearlings by such sires as Acclamation, Advertise, Blue Point, Churchill, Kodiac, Sea The Moon, Sioux Nation, Ten Sovereigns and Waldgeist are among the supplementary entries, completing an impressive sire profile for the two-day sale that also features Aclaim, Bated Breath, Caravaggio, Cotai Glory, Dark Angel, Harry Angel, Inns Of Court, Invincible Army, Kessaar, Kodi Bear, Kuroshio, Le Havre, Magna Grecia, Mehmas, New Approach, New Bay, Sea The Stars, Zelzal and Zoustar.

Subsequent Group 1 winner Laws Of Indices was purchased for just €8,000 at this sale. Last season’s Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes winner Quick Suzy was a €20,000 Autumn Yearling buy, while Prince Of Pillo, a stakes-winning two-year-old this season, cost just €10,000 as a yearling here.

Just last Sunday at San Siro, Vero Atleta (€28,000 purchase) paid testament to the quality of the commercial yearlings on offer at the Autumn Yearling Sale when the two-year-old son of Gleneagles followed up his recent listed race win with Group 2 glory in the Premio Gran Criterium.
