Baaeed has seen his first foal arrive recently at Haras de la Perelle in Normandy.

The bay filly is the first produce of Mejthaam, a two-time winning sprinter by Exceed And Excel and a half-sister to Alflaila, last year’s Group 2 York Stakes winner

Alflaila remains in training with Owen Burrows and Shadwell hope he will play a leading role in top-level races between a mile to 10 furlongs in 2024.

The Shadwell homebred Mejthaam has a strong pedigree, being out of Listed Montrose Stakes runner-up Adhwaa, who in turn is a half-sister to listed winner Shaqira out of Cheshire Oaks heroine Hammiya.

Haras de la Perelle manager William Rimaud said: “We are delighted with her. She is a strong, good-sized foal, full of energy and has a great temperament. She is doing everything right. It is very exciting to have had the first foal of the brilliant champion Baaeed.”

Star names

Having been supported by many of the world’s leading breeders in his first season at stud, an array of star names are due to produce a Baaeed foal this year.

These include Group 1 winners Deirdre, Eshaada, Nazeef, Persuasive, Queen’s Trust, Seal Of Approval, Search For A Song, Star Of Seville, The Fugue and Wavering, as well as the dams of elite winners Accidental Agent, Best Of Days, Native Trail, Persian King, Siyarafina and Ten Sovereigns. Baaeed’s official rating of 135 remains the highest since Frankel in Europe. His six Group 1 victories also led to him being crowned world champion turf horse and miler in 2022.

Baaeed stands at Beech House Stud in Newmarket, alongside new recruit Mostahdaf and Mohaather, as part of an open house during the Tattersalls February Sale on Thursday and Friday (12pm-3.30pm).

Baaeed's fee is £80,000 October 1st SLF terms.
