AS the new year steams ahead, so do many of our plans for our farms, the TAMS 3 applications will open in the first week of March. A range of supports are currently available to the equine sector under the Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Scheme (TAMS 3). Grant aid of 40% is available with an additional top-up of 20% for qualified young farmers and women farmers.
Eligibility
For Equine Investments only and prior to submitting the online TAMS 3 application, you must have an Equine Premises Number (EPN), have a minimum of five hectares of eligible land owned and/or leased or rented, which has been declared under the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and/or the Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) or equivalent in the year of application or preceding year and a minimum of three equines declared on the Equine Census or equivalent in the year preceding application.

To date, a total of almost €1.6 million in grant aid has been issued to farmers in respect of equine investments with a total investment value amounting to €3.1m, while applications amounting to an investment value of €16.7m have been submitted since TAMS 3 opened for applications in 2023. TAMS 3 deadlines for 2026 are set for March 6, June 5, September 4 and December 4 and applications are made via the DAFM website.
