American Pharoah stud fee set at $200,000

AMERICAN Pharoah will stand his first season at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky at a feee of $200,000, live foal.

The fee is one of the highest ever set for a freshman stallion in the US and already one of the very highest in America for 2016. Tapit has a published fee of $300,000 while Medaglia D’Oro ($150,000), Empire Maker ($100,000) and Curlin ($100,000) are others in the top price bracket.

American Pharoah won the Triple Crown this year and also added the Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park before tasting defeat in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga. However he ended his career in a blaze of glory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic last weekend at Keeneland.

His own sire Pioneerof The Nile, who stands at Winstar Farm, has seen his stud fee rise from $60,000 this year to $125,000.

American Pharoah, who won nine of his 11 starts, including the Triple Crown, the Haskell Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup this past weekend, arrived at Ashford Stud on Monday to begin his new life.
