ALEX Cairns of Horse Racing Ireland is preparing to run his first marathon in Málaga to raise funds for Irish Injured Jockeys (IIJ).
The challenge has a personal motivation for Alex as people close to him have suffered injuries while riding and received top-class support from IIJ during their recovery.
“I’ve seen up close the dangers involved in racing for riders and witnessed the incredible support they received from Irish Injured Jockeys,” Alex said. “So this cause means a lot to me personally. Running my first marathon will be a challenge, but it’s a small way to give something back and help IIJ continue their vital work.”
Alex is encouraging friends, colleagues and the wider racing community to get behind his fundraising effort, with every contribution helping IIJ support injured jockeys and their families.
