THE Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association will host its annual online Ask The Expert series during March and April. This year’s programme features a number of online seminars designed to provide attendees with a practical insight and up to date guidance across areas including human resource, health and safety, farm grants, West Nile Virus and pedigree management.

Seminars will be free to attend but advance registration (email hmarks@itba.ie) is essential.

Ask The Expert Series

Wednesday, March 18th (3pm): HR & Health and Safety: Cost saving through compliance

This seminar will cover legislative requirements and recent updates around HR and Health and Safety, including document compliancy with pension auto-enrolment, and how compliance will aid your company.

Wednesday, March 25th (7pm): Grants 101: What payments are available to you?’

This seminar will outline the different state schemes available to equine farms such as TAMS, ECO, ACRES, and Young Farmer payments. Attendees will also gain insight into funding options that support infrastructure improvements and renewable energy opportunities.

Wednesday, April 1st (7pm):

Not just the physical: Understanding pedigrees

The panel will discuss understanding pedigrees and nicks, how to improve a pedigree, what to consider when covering your mare in relation to pedigree, and stallion statistics. Attendees are encouraged to submit a pedigree in advance with one question for the panel to discuss.

Wednesday, April 15th (7pm):

Emerging viral diseases

Following the recent number of blue tongue cases in cattle in Co Wexford, this seminar will focus on emerging viral diseases including West Nile Virus. Blue tongue is carried by the same mosquitos as West Nile Virus and breeders should be vigilant against these emerging viral diseases.
