1.55 Wexford Racecourse Mares Maiden Hurdle 2m 4f

Good As Hell could be a solid option. She has shown some promise on her three outings to date and didn’t run at all badly to be beaten just under 20 lengths into fourth by Copper Nation in a two-mile-three-furlong maiden hurdle at Cork last month. A similar effort to that could well suffice and it is encouraging to note that she was placed in a point-to-point on good ground.

She is preferred to the 95-rated It’saleader who comes here off a respectable showing in a Clonmel maiden hurdle where she was beaten less than seven lengths into fifth by Fanoir. A similar showing should see her get closely involved.

A hopeful vote goes to Imperial Ruler to follow up his two-mile maiden hurdle success at Fairyhouse at Easter. This lightly-raced type was making it two wins from three starts as he defeated Gorgeous Suspect by a length and there is surely more to come from him.

Ambitious Fellow is an interesting runner. He looked to relish the near two-and-a-half-mile trip when claiming a last gasp victory in the auction hurdle series at the Punchestown Festival but he did win a two-mile bumper last autumn and he enjoys decent ground. It is interesting that connections are bringing him back to this distance. Buddy Rich has been chasing since the autumn but is interesting on his return to hurdles having won twice over flights last year.

Junior Bee can secure a deserved success. She has run a series of solid races in defeat lately with her most recent outing yielding a 12-length second to Drumbaragh in a handicap hurdle at Down Royal last week. She is a reliable type and can deal with Tullypole Annie who is already a winner this season having gotten off the mark over hurdles at Ballinrobe early last week. A 7lb rise in the weights for that success shouldn’t be enough to prevent her from playing a leading role.

SELECTION: JUNIOR BEE

It is over two years since he won a race but Turbojet could be the answer. He seemed to lose his way after a good run at Limerick in the autumn but his most recent sixth to Nell’s Well over three miles at Cork was encouraging. He was only beaten 10 lengths on that occasion and the form of that race is working out especially well which would suggest that he should be able to play a leading role at this level of competition.

So Scottish is an intriguing runner as he steps up dramatically in trip. A couple of his bumper runs make for very good reading but he has yet to reach that level of form as a hurdler including when well held in a Downpatrick maiden last week. However, it wouldn’t surprise if a switch to staying trips revived his fortunes.

SELECTION: TURBOJET

Ganapathi, who was in contention in a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Punchestown only to fall at the last just over 12 months ago, could be the one to side with. He has struggled to reach those heights in three runs over hurdles in recent months but he has shaped better than the final result on a couple of occasions and a midfield finish in the Coral Cup wasn’t a bad run in the context of this race.

Ash Tree Meadow was a useful 132-rated novice hurdler last season when his form included a two-mile maiden hurdle win at Navan. He should make up into a capable chaser. Genois is also entitled to respect after showing up well in a reasonable Naas beginner’s event in the autumn.

SELECTION: GANAPATHI

He has never won over fences but Sir Bob might now get his turn over the larger obstacles after a dominant success in a handicap hurdle over this trip at Cork over Easter. He has plenty of solid form over fences, including when second to Balkito at Limerick a couple of months ago, and makes plenty of appeal in a race that features a number of out of form rivals.

Touch Of Oscar has been well held in two of this last three runs but he also ran respectably behind Super Citizen at Leopardstown in early March and a return to that form could see him involved.

Beyond Ambitious came within a half length of becoming one of the longest priced winners in Irish racing history when she was beaten by The Model Kingdom in a Grade 3 mares’ bumper at the Punchestown Festival.

She had also shown ability on her two previous outings and if running to anything approaching her Punchestown form she should be able to see off Walk In The Brise who has filled the runner-up spot in bumpers at Gowran Park and Fairyhouse. Hopeforarun is noted after an encouraging debut effort at Punchestown.

SELECTION: BEYOND AMBITIOUS
