Mighty Meggsie appears the safest prospect in a very tricky opening contest. With a number of these unexposed over fences, it would be no surprise to see one show much improved form now tackling the larger obstacles. However, the Jessica Harrington-trained mare does have the advantage of two solid placed efforts over fences and she can continue that good form.

Mind Your Money looked smart when winning on her reappearance at Listowel and has run consistently since. Although making her chasing debut, the Tim Hyde-trained mare is one of the most interesting horses in the line-up.

Act Of God comes with a health warning for punters, having failed to complete on his latest two starts. However, the seven-year-old looks the class act in this field and should prove hard to beat with a clear round. A smart handicapper on the flat, he has a fair turn of foot which could be a potent weapon at the end of a race such as this one.

Lord Royal easily boasts the highest official rating in the race and was the best of these over hurdles. However, all his best form has come over staying trips, so he may be vulnerable to a speedier rival on this sharp track.

SELECTION: ACT OF GOD

Ricky Langford could be the answer in first-time cheekpieces. The gelding had been in good form over hurdles around this time last year and remains better handicapped over fences. He has already won over fences, something that very few of his rivals have been able to replicate. With the benefit of a recent comeback under his belt, the Philip Rothwell-trained horse should be competitive.

Rebellious Gale makes his chasing debut on just his eighth racecourse start. Having won over hurdles last time, the Tony Martin-trained gelding is clearly on the upgrade. He could be totally unexposed at this discipline.

SELECTION: RICKY LANGFORD

Mica Malpic should be hard to beat, granted a clear round of jumping. The J.P. McManus-owned gelding exploited a lower chase mark when successful at Limerick in May and would have followed up at Wexford last time but for unseating at the last. Raised 4lbs subsequently, he still looks very nicely treated relative to his hurdles mark, so should be winning.

Father Jed is likely to have been aimed at this local meeting and is also well-in over fences. However, the John Ryan-trained veteran has nowhere near as much in hand as his younger rival.

Mr Caplan can make a winning chasing debut for the in-form Gordon Elliott-Jack Kennedy alliance. The son of Fame And Glory has yet to jump a fence in public but should be well schooled for this assignment. One of the best of these over hurdles, he is favoured by the race conditions and should be fit enough despite not having seen action since last September.

L’Impertinent was impressive on his chasing debut when making all at Ballinrobe in May. He has to concede weight to a few of these but jumps well and could be hard to peg back if allowed too much leeway.

SELECTION: MR CAPLAN

Optical Confusion is a smart handicapper at this level when he gets genuine good ground. The Michael Butler-trained gelding jumps and travels well in his races but often struggles when it gets too soft. Rather surprisingly, he showed up well when second at Wexford last time, despite the ground having plenty of ease. He should be seen in an even better light back on good ground.

Fest Diaz was only fourth in that aforementioned Wexford race but has won over hurdles at this track and will also act on the better ground. He could well have had this race as a target for some time.

SELECTION: OPTICAL CONFUSION

Next best: Fest Diaz

We’llhavewan is of obvious interest on his first start for Willie Mullins. Winner of his last two races over hurdles, he must be considered a nice prospect having joined the champion trainer. This looks like a nice opportunity for him to get his career over fences off to the perfect start. He seems adaptable trip-wise and should handle the ground.

Hascoeur Clermont won easily over hurdles at Bellewstown recently but drops back in distance now. Provided that the shorter trip isn’t an issue, he should be involved in the closing stages.
