THREE Darley stallions with their first yearlings for sale proved popular in Book 2, while Coolmore’s Calyx was another to produce an impressive average.
Dubawi’s son and three-time Group 1 winner Too Darn Hot, who retired to Dalham Hall for a fee of £50,000, produced an average of 121,667gns for his 15 yearlings sold. Just one of his offspring returned home from the sale. Shadwell bought his best offering for 320,000gns, followed closely by the sale from Watership Down Stud of a colt out of the listed winner Frankel Light to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 300,000gns.
Derby winner Masar stood for a modest £15,000 in his first season at Dalham Hall, but his 12 yearlings sold in Book 2, from 13 offered, averaged 88,417gns, and had a most impressive median of 90,000gns. Mountain View Stud sold the sire’s best of the week, a colt out of a placed Shamardal mare, to SackvilleDonald for 240,000gns.
Nine of the 10 yearlings offered by Calyx, who went to stud at €22,500, sold for an average of 82,444gns and a median of 75,000gns. MV Magnier bought the best of them, a colt out of a winning Raven’s Pass mare, for 170,000gns.
Most represented
Blue Point was the most represented of the sires at the sale with their first yearlings. The three-time Group 1 winner at Royal Ascot had 26 yearlings sell for an average of 78,808gns, Pier House Stud receiving 265,000gns for a colt out of a mare who was bought for just 37,000gns five years ago. Blue Point’s first year fee at Kildangan Stud was €45,000.
Other sires with their first crop yearlings averaging more than 50,000gns were Advertise (16 sold for an average of 72,688gns), Invincible Army (nine sold, 72,667gns), Study Of Man (three sold, 72,000gns), Land Force (11 sold, 68,636gns), Magna Grecia (10 sold, 63,500gns), Waldgeist (eight sold, 63,125gns), Soldier’s Call (six sold, 55,667gns), Phoenix Of Spain (seven sold, 55,286gns), Ten Sovereigns (13 sold, 53,769gns) and Inns Of Court (11 sold, 53,364gns).
