THE Tattersalls Online November Sale was topped by a breeding right to Whitsbury Manor Stud’s young first-season sire sensation Havana Grey. It sold for 115,000gns to Badgers Bloodstock.

The opportunity to acquire a lifetime breeding right to one of Britain’s most sought-after young stallions attracted an array of interested parties throughout the sale, which opened for bidding on Wednesday afternoon.

Havana Grey has delivered impressive results on the track and in the sales ring, as the sire of no less than 13 group or listed performers, and his top-priced yearling sold for 325,000gns. With almost half of his 83 starters having won at least once, it is little wonder that his fee for 2023 has shot up from £6,000 to £18,500.

Successful purchaser Tom Pritchard-Gordon referred to the dominance of the emerging sire as the significant drawcard to securing the breeding right. He said: “Havana Grey is a very exciting young stallion who continues to exceed expectations. He is the sire of 13 stakes performers from 83 runners which is remarkable; 16% stakes-performing two-year-olds to runners off a stallion fee of £8,000. Whitsbury Manor Stud have been very conservative with their pricing this year, and I predict that in a couple of years he will look remarkably cheap.”

Being familiar with using the Tattersalls Online platform, after purchasing Group 3 winning filly West End Girl for £420,000 in 2020, Pritchard-Gordon added: “It’s very user-friendly and we are very au fait with it, and hope to continue to use it in the future.”

Ireland-bound

The second highest-priced lot was the listed-placed Gleneagles filly Willesee, offered from Jessica Harrington’s Commonstown Stables. The three-year-old hails from the Juddmonte family of Group 2 Coventry Stakes winner Calyx and Group 1 winner African Rose.

Willesee attracted a winning bid of 90,000gns from Noel O’Callaghan’s Mountarmstrong Stud.

Breeding rights to a pair of Darley’s young stallions Harry Angel and Territories also sold, the former being knocked down to Bearstone Stud for 18,000gns, and the latter being secured by Sophie Buckley’s Culworth Grounds Farm for 17,500gns.

Consensus De Vega, a three-year-old winning daughter of Lope De Vega from Roger Varian’s Carlburg Stables, was sold for 24,000gns to the Newmarket-based agent, Armando Duarte.

Rachel O’Neill was responsible for the purchase of Fast Medicine, a dual winning four-year-old by Iffraaj who was offered by Peter Chapple-Hyam’s St Gatien Stables. He is set to join Shark Hanlon after realising 17,500gns.

Kingdom Come

Also selling for 17,500gns was the Clive Cox-trained three-year-old Kingman colt, Kingdom Come. China Horse Club bought out their partner in the twice-raced colt. Rebecca Menzies’ Howe Hills Stables sold the dual winner Cheese The One, a three-year-old Outstrip filly, for 16,500gns to Peter Sedgwick.

The Tattersalls Online November Sale realised a gross of 446,500gns from the sale of 38 lots, and attracted bidders from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Australia, the Netherlands and France. Unsold horses remain available for purchase through the Make An Offer facility of the Tattersalls Online platform.

The next Tattersalls Online sale will take place on December 14th and 15th.
