YEAR after year the Tattersalls July Sale is the source of Group 1 producers and performers on the global stage. The combination of fillies and mares from outstanding international families, together with an abundance of progressive horses in training, is a proven formula which attracts buyers from all corners of the world.

The back cover of this year’s catalogue shows this to best effect. Listed as graduates of the July Sale are Janina, the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Campanelle, and the Grade 1 hurdle winner Knight Salute, sold for just 14,000gns last year.

Together with wildcards, the lot numbers for sale are just shy of 860 over three days, though there are already many which have been withdrawn and are listed elsewhere on this page. Taking place from Wednesday, July 6th to Friday, July 8th, the three-day sale features high-class consignments from many of the world’s leading owner-breeders, including Cheveley Park Stud, Coolmore, Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms, Lanwades Stud and Shadwell Estates.

The Tattersalls July Sale has sold the dams of 12 individual Group 1 winners since 2019, including last year’s Group 1 winners Walton Street, Campanelle and Hungry Heart, purchased for 15,000gns, 39,000gns and 60,000gns respectively.

Broodmares on offer include mares in foal to proven Group 1 sires Aclaim, Ardad, Bated Breath, Bungle Inthejungle, Dandy Man, Dark Angel, Gleneagles, Havana Gold, Iffraaj, Invincible Spirit, Kodiac, Make Believe, Mayson, Mehmas, Sea The Moon, Showcasing, Sir Percy, Starspangledbanner, Territories and Wootton Bassett.

Young sires are equally well represented, with mares in foal to exciting Group 1 winners Advertise, Blue Point, Earthlight, Ghaiyyath, Kameko, Masar, Mohaather, Palace Pier, Pinatubo, Sottsass, Study Of Man, Ten Sovereigns, Waldgeist and Without Parole. Several stallions impressing with their first crop runners are also represented, and include mares in foal to Expert Eye, Harry Angel, Havana Grey, Sioux Nation and Tasleet.

Group 1 highlight

The highlight of the broodmares on offer is undoubtedly the Group 1 Matron Stakes winner Chachamaidee, herself the dam of Group 3 winner Klassique (Galileo) and the recent listed winner Valiant Prince, in foal to Mohaather. She is consigned by DVA Equine Services alongside her Galileo daughter For Henry, in foal to Advertise.

The Godolphin draft of broodmares includes the German champion filly and multiple Group 1 placed Antara, the dam of Group 3 winner Algiers, and she is in foal to European Champion Palace Pier. Others of note include the listed winner Fountain Of Time and Balanchine’s winning daughter Balsamine, who are both in foal to Earthlight. Etruria, a winning full-sister to Group 1 winner Territories, is also in foal to the same sire. Pivotal’s daughter Concordia, the dam of Group 1 winner Polarisation, is being sold in foal to Palace Pier.

Well-bred fillies amongst the Godolphin consignment include Sweet Whisper, a Dubawi half-sister to European champion Farhh. Daughters of Group 1 winners include Carnival Girl (out of Yorkshire Oaks winner Punctilious) and Naasma (out of Falmouth Stakes winner Music Show). A daughter of Dubawi certain to attract interest is Cheradi, a half-sister to Group 1 winner and sire Territories.

Eye-catching

The draft from Shadwell Estates contains several eye-catching broodmares including Dubawi’s Raaqy, a listed-placed daughter of champion and classic winner Natagora in foal to Pinatubo, and Baqqa, a Shamardal own-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Dunboyne Express in foal to Mohaather. Juddmonte Farms will offer the listed winner Zaminast, a half-sister to Famous Name, in foal to Bated Breath.

Other mares from high-profile families include Baroda Stud’s Formal Affair, a half-sister to Group 1 winners Make Believe and Dubawi Heights, and Barton Sales’ Shining Bright, a Galileo full-sister to this year’s Royal Ascot Group 2 winner Changingoftheguard, in foal to Starspangledbanner. The Castlebridge Consignment will offer Footprints, a Galileo own-sister to Armory in foal to Wootton Bassett and Almangara, a daughter of dual Grade 1 winner Angara, in foal to Waldgeist.

Form horses offer ability and potential

BUYERS focused on horses in training are well catered for with an abundance of proven and unexposed performers catalogued.

Two lots with especially important updates are the Royal Ascot winners Latin Lover, successful in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes and with a BHA rating of 89, and five-time winner and victorious in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, Inver Park. This son of Pivotal now has a BHA mark of 94.

The lightly raced four-year-old colt Stowell, placed in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase for John and Thady Gosden and third in the Group 3 John Porter Stakes this season, is among the older horses with smart recent form as well as group performers Agitare, Ace Aussie and Mehmento.

Three-year-olds catalogued with high-class form include the Alice Haynes trained listed winner Mr Professor and the lightly-raced Coolmore duo of King Of Bavaria and Scriptwriter, rated 101 and 102 respectively. Baroda Stud will consign Roger Varian’s Group 3 placed colt Claim The Crown, as well as the 96-rated Exquisite Acclaim, trained by Jessica Harrington and fourth in two listed races.

Irish interest

Promising lightly raced three-year-olds include the Ken Condon trained Warren Beach, a half-brother to a Group 1 winner and Timeform-rated 95 after impressive wins in his two most recent starts. Grenoble was beaten only a head in his most recent start on the Derby undercard at Epsom and is Timeform-rated 98 for William Haggas’ Somerville Lodge, and Juddmonte Farms will offer the Invincible Spirit colt Culcor who broke his maiden by three and a quarter lengths on his most recent start at Gowran Park.

Eye-catching lots amongst the fillies in training are the listed winner Dima, consigned by Jamie Railton, and Hilal Kobeissi’s three-year-old Mehmas filly Rolling The Dice, third in last year’s Group 2 May Hill Stakes. Other well-bred fillies to feature include Gainsborough Thoroughbreds’ Beau Rivage, a half-sister to Group 1 winner Best Of Days, and East Everleigh Stables’ Say Goodnight, a half-sister to Derby, St Leger and Ascot Gold Cup runner-up Mojo Star. Juddmonte Farms will offer their customarily strong draft of well-bred fillies.

Quality wildcards

SEVEN wildcards have been added to the Tattersalls July Sale; five will be offered on the opening day, with the two others selling on Friday.

Bill Dwan’s The Castlebridge Consignment will offer three smart fillies, led by Group 3 winner See The Rose, who was beaten less than two lengths when fifth in last year’s Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches-French 1000 Guineas. The four-year-old daughter of Kendargent is a full-sister to listed winner Xaarino and the Group 3 placed Mont Kiara. The consignment will also include the listed-placed Anatiya, and this daughter of Dariyan is a half-sister to the Group 1 placed Graignes. They will be joined by the well-bred Nomadland, an unraced three-year-old filly by Frankel out of a full-sister to Grade 1 Japanese Derby winner Deep Brillante.

Set to attract plenty of interest is Sun King, a three-year-old colt by Galileo who ran third at Royal Ascot in the Golden Gates Stakes in the colours of the late Sir Robert Ogden, earning a Timeform rating of 97. Jamie Railton will offer the four-year-old Fastnet Rock filly Twisted Reality, fourth in the Listed Fillies’ Trial Stakes at Newbury for David Menuisier behind subsequent Group 1 winner Eshaada.

Three-year-old Chesterton broke his maiden impressively for Ger O’Leary at Down Royal on his most recent start. He is officially rated 82, while completing the wildcard entries is the beautifully-bred three-year-old filly Crystal Estrella. The daughter of Iffraaj broke her maiden by four and a quarter lengths at Goodwood on her third start for Sir Michael Stoute earning an official BHA rating of 89.
