IRELAND’s Denis Lynch produced a stunning second round performance to win Saturday's five-star world ranking class at Basel in Switzerland.
The win saw Lynch's top horse Abbervail Van Het Dingeshof end his great career on a high note by clinching a narrow victory.
Lynch was one of nine combinations to make it into the second round jump-off with the 16-year-old gelding Abbervail Van Het Dingeshof and a brilliant display saw him take the winner’s cheque of almost €12,000.
The top horse (Nonostop x Jus de Pommes) has now been retired from the sport, going out on a high note.
Abbervail had a glittering career with Lynch, winning the 2010 Grand Prix of Wiesbaden, the 2011 Rolex World Cup in Den Bosch, the 2014 Rabobank Championship of Rotterdam, the 2015 Grand Prix of Braunschweig, the 2015 Golden Whip in Nörten-Hardenberg as well as recording numerous other wins and podium finishes.
Abbervail van het Dingeshof also jumped the World Cup Final twice; in 2011 and 2012.
On Saturday, less than a second separated the top four finishers, with Lynch denying the home crowd a local win when he forced Switzerland’s Romain Douget into second place. The Irish Sport Horse Castlefield Eclipse finished in eighth place with Swiss rider, Paul Estermann.
Lynch was joined at the Swiss venue by Cork's Billy Twomey, who last week scored a Grand Prix win for Ireland at Liverpool in Britain.
