ALTHOUGH show jumping has been suspended in the south, action in the Autumn Grand Prix rounds continued up north last weekend with Portmore playing host to two legs at their Autumn championships. Needless to say, with the current restrictions, it was northern riders who filled most of the placings.

On Saturday, Jonathan Smyth secured a victory in the 1.35m SJI Autumn Grand Prix and took home £2,000 for his efforts. Riding James McKean’s CAFRE Olympic Dream, he was fastest of just four double clears in a time of 33.53 seconds. This is the second consecutive win for Smyth who took the win in the 1.40m SJI Autumn Grand Prix at Cavan aboard Charlton Clio in the last round. This combination also won the Ulster Grand Prix at The Meadows in September.
