VETERINARY Ireland has announced the appointment of Co Galway veterinarian Eoin Glynn MVB as its new president, following the Association’s AGM and annual conference in Kilkenny.
With a background firmly rooted in equestrian sport and equine practice, Glynn’s presidency arrives at a pivotal moment for both the veterinary profession and the horse industry. A passionate show jumper and former Grand Prix competitor, he has recorded wins at the RDS in pony and young rider divisions, experience he brings directly into his work as a mixed and equine practitioner.
Leadership style
Glynn studied horsemanship at Kildalton College before qualifying as a vet at UCD and founding Gorteen Acre Veterinary Clinic, which operates in Athenry and Tuam. His leadership style is shaped by first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by riders, trainers, vets and horse owners; from welfare to performance, medication use, and the complexities of modern equine care.
Speaking at his inauguration, Glynn highlighted his commitment to a profession where every member feels supported, valued and empowered to lead in animal health, welfare and ethical practice. His appointment marks the 25th anniversary of Veterinary Ireland, a moment he described as “an opportunity to embrace change while protecting what matters most: integrity, welfare and science-led decision making.”
For Ireland’s vibrant equine sector, spanning competition sport, racing, breeding and riding, Glynn’s presidency promises a strong advocate who understands both sides of the railings: the pressures of performance and the responsibilities of welfare.
