AFTER a short midsummer break, the sales year swings back into action next Wednesday when Goffs UK stages its one-day August Sale in Doncaster.

The catalogue is predominately National Hunt and has been described as diverse, featuring as it does horses in training, point-to-pointers, mares in foal, and stores aged three and two.

A selection of late-season Irish point-to-pointers will likely dominate the horses in training session. Denis Murphy, Colin Bowe, Michael Goff, Colin McKeever, Sam Curling and Aidan Fitzgerald are among the handlers sending winners to the sale.

Some major flat yards are suporting the horses-in-training section. Kevin Ryan, Mark Johnston and Hughie Morrison have entries, while Irish trainers with entries include Gordon Elliott, Joseph O’Brien and Charles Byrnes.

Turning to the mares in foal, the undoubted star offering is Grade 2 hurdles winner Miss Heritage, in foal to Nathaniel. Joining that four-time winner in the mares’ section are mares in foal to Bangkok, Jack Hobbs and Walzertakt.

The two-year-old store horse session has been launched in support of the new junior hurdle races in Britain which will commence in the autumn. The section has been well supported by breeders with 43 horses to be offered in its debut year.

Supplementary entries include debut bumper winners Cavalon and Jack The Savage, the debut hurdle winner Gekkota and Johnson’s Blue, who has won five of his last six hurdle starts.

The session will offer two-year-olds by Blue Bresil, Dartmouth, Diamond Boy, Doctor Dino, Doyen, Falco, Gentlewave, Getaway, Great Pretender, Jack Hobbs, Jeu St Eloi, Linda’s Lad, Mahsoob, Mondialiste, Montmartre, No Risk At All, Pether’s Moon, Pillar Coral, Sea The Moon, Schiaparelli, Walzertakt and Yeats.

The sale will conclude with its traditional NH store session, the last opportunity of the year to buy three-year-olds, which will offer 73 lots.
