MINZAAL is the first season sire with the most lots catalogued in the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, which is set to take place from April 13th to 15th.
The breeze-ups can often be an indication to the most precocious, if not the most promising, young stallions, with Starman and St Mark’s Basilica hitting the highest notes at last year’s Craven Sale.
Of the 182 juveniles confirmed for this year’s edition – a number on par with last year – seven are by Derrinstown Stud sire Minzaal, whose yearlings averaged €87,491 and commanded up to 550,000gns.
Castlehyde Stud resident Blackbeard came close to hitting those marks at the yearling sales, producing an average price of 87,299 and peaking at 500,000gns. The top-class two-year-old has six lots catalogued in the first breeze-up sale of the year.
Six-figure breezer Perfect Power has four lots catalogued, followed by Persian Force with three, State Of Rest with two and one representative each for Baaeed, Bayside Boy and Naval Crown.
Overall, Havana Grey has the largest number catalogued at 19, with Starspangledbanner next at 13, closely followed by Mehmas at 12. Other proven Group 1 sires represented include Acclamation, Blue Point, Dark Angel, Frankel, Invincible Spirit, Justify, Lope De Vega, Night Of Thunder, No Nay Never, Sea The Stars, Sioux Nation, Starman, Too Darn Hot and Wootton Bassett.
Perfect pedigrees
Highlights include siblings to Group/Grade 1 winners The Platinum Queen, Trading Leather, Powerful Glory, Lush Lips and Ventura Storm, along with a Palace Pier colt out of a dual Group 1 winner in South Africa.
Willie Browne’s Mocklershill, who sold an Acclamation colt for 1,400,000gns last year, has the largest consignment 12 months on, with 10 catalogued. Thomond O’Mara’s Knockanglass Stables, Tally-Ho Stud and Cormac Farrell’s C. F. Bloodstock will each offer nine lots, while Malcolm Bastard, consignor of last year’s top lot, has six entered.
Another notable element are the additional incentives offered by a number of lots, with four entered in the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus Scheme, nine eligible for French Owners’ Premiums, 13 entered in the Swedish Derby and Oaks Series and nine fillies registered for the Great British Bonus Scheme.
There are also several lots entered in the £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes, the £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes and the €250,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes.
The ‘breeze’ for the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale will take place at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse on Monday 13th April starting at 9.30am, with the sale taking place on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th April after the conclusion of racing on the first two days of Newmarket’s three-day Craven Meeting.
