THE staging of the Goffs Million at the Curragh today [Saturday] signals the start of Goffs Orby Sale week. The 500-plus yearlings listed in the catalogue are already being viewed at Kildare Paddocks this weekend, ahead of the two-day sale which starts on Tuesday.

International interest in the Orby Sale is said to be increased this year, thanks in part to the strength of the dollar against the euro and a growth in demand from America for turf horses.

There are 12 yearlings from the final crop of the late Galileo due to be offered, along with five Frankels, 13 by Sea The Stars, seven Lope De Vegas, four Kingmans and a Dubawi. Other elite stallions represented include Dark Angel, Nathaniel, Siyouni, Zoffany, Oasis Dream, No Nay Never, Starspangledbanner, Camelot, Invincible Spirit, Night Of Thunder, Mehmas and Australia.

The sole Dubawi yearling in the sale comes from Staffordstown Stud, vendors of St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov (by Dubawi) at the 2020 Orby Sale.

Other Orby graduates to win big races this year include Prosperous Voyage (Group 1 Falmouth Stakes), Broome (Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes), Persian Force (Group 2 July Stakes) and Ladies Church (Group 2 Sapphire Stakes).

Last year’s Orby Sale catalogue had 444 entries, so this year’s book is 16% bigger. Henry Beeby, Goffs CEO, said: “Thanks to increased support from leading Irish breeders we have grown the catalogue whilst maintaining the quality across both days and I extend our thanks to every vendor as we are nothing with their beautiful yearlings.”

All yearlings offered will be eligible for the 2023 Goffs Million which currently is Europe’s richest two-year-old race.
