THIS sale doesn’t need a preview - just a photograph of Constitution Hill will do.

You wonder if they’re already thinking of putting up a statue of the Champion Hurdle winner at Doncaster, or will they wait until he wins the Gold Cups at Ascot and Cheltenham too?

It was at this sale in 2021 that Warren Ewing and Barry Geraghty sold the future star for just £120,000 to Nicky Henderson. The horse hadn’t even won his point-to-point, giving hope to all the smaller buyers out there who will travel to Doncaster next week in the hope of picking up a bargain.

Following immediately after the two-day store sale, this sale devoted to horses-in-training and point-to-pointers starts on Wednesday. The catalogue features 450 original entries plus a further 83 supplementary entries added this week.

These are all ‘form’ horses, naturally, though it should be remembered that this season’s Grade 1 winning novice hurdler Good Land was also bought at this sale, unraced, for just £28,000 in 2019. The sellers on that occasion were Mike Grech and Stuart Parkin, and their dispersal draft that year was headed by Interconnected, who made £620,000 and never won a race. Funny old game.

Mike Grech is selling the 128-rated chaser Gallyhill next week and there are races to be won with him, but most interest will be on the point-to-point section.

Wednesday will be dedicated to over 200 point-to-pointers and young form horses. All the leading point-to-point handlers are represented.

Thursday is dedicated to horses-in-training, and it has a strong mix of promising younger horses, proven performers and some attractive breeding opportunities. Gordon Elliott has the largest draft with 24 entries while Dan Skelton offers 14. The Dai Walters partial dispersal will see 25 lots offered without reserve.

Other trainers with drafts in the sale include Alan King, Ben Pauling, David Pipe, Donald McCain, Emma Lavelle, Evan Williams, Henry de Bromhead, Jonjo O’Neill, Iain Jardine, Ian Williams, Lucinda Russell, Margaret Mullins, Neil Mulholland, Nicky Henderson, Nigel Twiston-Davies, Oliver Sherwood, Olly Murphy, Paul Nicholls, Philip Hobbs, Tom George and Warren Greatrex.

The sale will offer some well-bred fillies and mares too.
