LEZOO and Sakheer will represent the Arqana Breeze Up Sale in this weekend’s Guineas at Newmarket but, irrespective of how they fare on the Rowley Mile, the Deauville Sale continues to enhance its reputation as one of the very best sales of its kind in the world.

Last year Eldar Eldarov became the latest classic winner to emerge from the sale. Another 2022 graduate to have made racing headlines recently is the Craven Stakes winner Indestructible, and he is also due to run in today’s 2000 Guineas.

Last weekend’s French Group 3 winner Big Call went through the ring at this sale for only €45,000, before being retained by vendor Lynn Lodge and later sold privately after winning his maiden on debut for Joseph O’Brien.

Malavath was an excellent Arqana Breeze Up Sale success story. Sold for £120,000 at the 2020 Arqana Sale (which was moved to Doncaster), she was a Group 2 winner at two, was a close second in the Breeders’ Cup the same year, won a Group 3 race at three and was placed second in Group 1 company last year, before being sold for €3.2 million to Moyglare Stud at Arqana last December.

There is a lot of chat ahead of this year’s edition, which takes place next Saturday, May 13th. The 185 juveniles in the catalogue (plus nine wildcards) will breeze from Thursday at midday and Friday is reserved for inspections.

Almost half of the colts and fillies selected are out of blacktype mares and/or have already produced a blacktype winner. Among them, 38 are out of group race-winning mares and/or have already produced a group race winner.

Buyers will have the opportunity to acquire sons and daughters of Group 1 winners Ribbons, Curvy, Miss France and Rumplestiltskin.

Full or half-siblings to Group 1 winners Lighthouse Bay, Latrobe, Tapestry, Alenquer, Palace Pier, Combatant, Rhea Moon, Dylan Mouth and Tiger Tanaka are also catalogued.

Almost 80 stallions are represented, including leading sires Camelot, Churchill, Dark Angel, Dubawi, Frankel, Invincible Spirit, Kodiac, Lope De Vega, Mehmas, New Bay, Night of Thunder, No Nay Never, Oasis Dream, Sea The Moon, Sea The Stars, Showcasing, Siyouni, Starspangledbanner, Wootton Bassett, Zarak and Zoffany, as well as the American sires American Pharoah, Blame, Candy Ride, Cairo Prince, Curlin, Ghostzapper, Into Mischief, Justify, Medaglia d’Oro, Mendelssohn, More Than Ready, Speightstown, Summer Front, Temple City, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.
