WELL done to all at Sycamore Stables, the home of the WKD show jumping team, which played host to over 90 avid equestrians for an evening of fun and entertainment in aid of the Air Ambulance NI, last Friday.

The evening featured show jumping demonstrations by Team GBR rider Sameh El Dahan, supported by Tabitha and Ari Allen and Jodie Creighton. The dressage demonstrations were hosted by Charlie Hutton, who flew over from his base in Scotland, to be assisted by local riders Zara Wood and Courtney Akkari.

Organised by head of WKD show jumping, Joanne Sloan-Allen, it was an engaging evening filled with learning, fun and great food. It was a great chance to bring the community together while teaching the importance of the combination of disciplines and how they can enhance a horse’s overall performance.

The demo and raffle raised over £7,000 for the Air Ambulance NI which completely relies on donations to keep afloat. With costs in excess of €5,000 per day to keep the helicopters ready for action, they are essential to NI and at least two people per day need their services.

Grace Williams, a member of the AANI team, attended and gave great thanks to everyone for the money raised.

More than 40 local businesses donated prizes for the raffle and ticket sales were strong in the week before the demo, with some fabulous prizes including an overnight stay at the Clandeboye Lodge, and a show jumping lesson with Denis Flannelly, plus many other non-equestrian prizes.

David Turley and Chris Akkari from K&R Equine Vets gave an insight into their working day as part of their presentation, and equestrian mindset coach Sandie Roberts brought her Diamond Academy services to the riders at Sycamore Stables.

Incredible food and sweet treats were kindly provided at the event by Lyle Hill Farm and Liz Brown’s Sweet Sensations.

Joanne Sloan-Allen and Sameh El Dahan of Team WKD relayed special thanks to all the staff at Sycamore, the riders and the local businesses that contributed to the evening that helped raise this much needed support.
