GORDON Elliott took a break from making entries for the Cheltenham handicaps last Monday morning to chat to some readers of The Irish Field who visited his yard in Co Meath.

From all corners of the country, the guests had been on the road from as early as 5am and the journey was certainly worthwhile.

The visitors were allowed explore every inch of the impressive training facility, while Gordon’s team got on with their work all around them. Even with over 200 horses to be exercised, the atmosphere was one of calm professionalism where everyone seemed to know exactly what they had to do at all times.

A coffee ‘horsebox’ from Bective Tea Rooms kept everyone fuelled on what was (miraculously) a bright and dry morning. As the group munched on breakfast baps and cookies, chat turned from Cheltenham to the idea of a racing club for readers of The Irish Field. Watch this space.
