LEOPARDSTOWN has released details of the entertainment programme for its Bulmers Live series of Thursday evening meetings this summer.
The line-up is a little different this year as, along with some well-known singers and bands, there are also plans for street performers and a wild bingo party!
The series starts next Thursday, June 12th with a performance from The Academic. The indie rock band from Killucan, Co Westmeath, have two number one albums under their belt and they have played at Leopardstown before. They are also on the Electric Picnic bill this year.
Jerry Fish, who plays after racing on June 19th, is practically an Irish rock music legend at this stage. He was the frontman for An Emotional Fish back in the late 1980s and early 1990s before going solo. Expect a rousing rendition of Celebrate to round off the night.
DJ Marcus O’Laoire will do a set after racing on July 10th, and a week later singer-songwriter Allie Sherlock is sure to draw a crowd. The 20-year-old from Cork made her name busking on Grafton Street and her YouTube channel has over 1.5 billion views.
Darren Kiely is another Cork-born singer-songwriter and he plays Leopardstown on July 24th. He played at Electric Picnic last year.
We are fascinated by Leopardstown’s plans to bring Bingo Loco to racegoers on two Thursday evenings in August.
This phenomenon is hard to explain but it’s not what you’d find in your local bingo hall. The organisers describe it as a 90-minute “interactive stage show complete with dance-offs, rave rounds, lip sync battles, throwback anthems, confetti showers, and prizes ranging from international holidays to cars, air fryers, lawnmowers, and so much more.”
This will be the main entertainment at Leopardstown on August 7th and 21st, supplemented by “a series of street performances and games from fire artists, caricatures, buskers, mimes, and fortune-tellers.”
Surely the fortune-tellers can give us a winner.
