THE Irish Injured Jockeys and Irish Jockeys Trust are offering assistance to jockeys and former jockeys in three ways during the Covid-19 crisis.

Jockeys who believe they may be entitled to claim Government and social welfare payments are welcome to call on the expertise – free of charge – of J.P. Wynne and Co Accountants in Clonmel for advice on how to make a claim.

Secondly, a panel of experienced financial advisers has been put together by both the IIJ and IJT to help with the possible rescheduling of loans or mortgages.

Thirdly, the two organisations have come together to provide a ‘fast track monetary assistance programme’.

Initially this temporary assistance programme was set up to provide a fast response to those in difficulty and allowed them some room to sort out their finances up to April 19th. Applications were being made through the Facebook pages of the two organisations.

However, the IIJ and IJT have now extended the scheme until May 5th and they have reverted to their existing assistance programmes with riders asked to apply directly and in confidence to Michael Higgins (IIJ) or Joe Kenny or Colin Fallon (both IJT).

Applicants will be contacted and asked to go through the application before it is put beofe the Beneficiaries Committee for approval.

All riders, both current and former, who either currently hold or have ever held a licence, are entitled to apply and be considered for assistance.
