JESSICA Harrington will watch Cheltenham from home next week as she continues her recovery from breast cancer.

Speaking on RTE’s Upfront: The Podcast presented by Katie Hannon, the trainer said: “I haven’t been racing because I don’t want to be mixing with a lot of people because of getting infections. I am in the middle and down to the end of it.

“I did 12 weeks having treatment every week. And I have got two more to go and I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it’s absolutely fantastic.

“I think having dark days with cancer, the cancer might feed on that. That’s my attitude. So therefore, we can’t have dark days. But if you do have a bit of a flip, you pull yourself up and carry on because there’s an awful lot of other people much worse than you are.”

Harrington has four Cheltenham entries – Mighty Mo Missouri (Boodles), The Very Man (Coral Cup and County Hurdle), Ashdale Bob (Stayers’ Hurdle) and Jetara (Mares’ Novice Hurdle).

She is the most successful female trainer in the history of the Cheltenham Festival with 11 winners to-date, including the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Gold Cup. In recent years, she has concentrated more on flat racing, winning Group 1 races with Alpha Centauri, Magical Lagoon, Lucky Vega, No Speak Alexander and Discoveries.
