Open day at farriery school

THE Irish School of Farriery in the RACE campus in Kildare town will host an open day on Tuesday, May 24th from 3pm-5pm. Anyone interested in pursuing a career in farriery is welcome to attend.

Sharon McConnell, manager of Farriery Ireland, said: “The open day will be an ideal opportunity to learn about the farriery trade and the details of the apprenticeship. The day is mainly for secondary school students but open to everyone interested in a career as a farrier. We have our first female apprentice in the school this year and we hope that sets an example for others to follow.”

The tour and demonstrations will take about an hour. Places are limited and advance registration is required.

Barrier trials are back

APPROVAL has been granted for the Irish EBF Barrier Trials to return for two dates later this year at Dundalk Stadium.

The trials are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 5th and Tuesday, August 30th and will again be restricted to unraced two-year-old and three-year-old thoroughbreds over distances of five, six and seven furlongs. Horses entering must be named, returned in training and with a stalls certificate.

Irish Thoroughbred Marketing has run these barrier trials with the co-operation of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board and the Irish European Breeders’ Fund since 2018. The trials are being run primarily to meet significant demand, both locally and abroad, for quality unraced horses. As before, IRIS will be on hand to record the trials and broadcast them live on YouTube, while videos of each batch will be uploaded to social media channels immediately afterwards.

The forthcoming dates will be advertised on the HRI RAS entries webpage around two weeks in advance with entries opening shortly afterwards. Further inquiries can be addressed to barriertrials@itm.ie or to 087 112 1625.
