Flooring Porter breeder Sean Murphy wins award

SEAN Murphy has won the Connolly’s Red Mills The Irish Field Breeder of the Month competition for March. The Galway man bred Flooring Porter, winner of the Grade 1 Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham for a second time.

Jump jockey Josh Moore makes some progress

JOSH Moore’s condition has been “further stabilised” in hospital and the jockey is now being considered for back surgery following his serious fall at Haydock. Moore remains sedated on a ventilator in critical care with treatment to his injuries complicated and delayed by a ‘serious chest infection’.

Moore suffered a broken femur, as well as broken ribs, a punctured lung and damage to his lower back after falling from Gleno on April 16th. The 30-year-old underwent successful surgery on his broken leg last week.

This is the second time this season that Moore has sustained a serious injury, with the rider missing a huge chunk of the campaign following a serious back injury in October.

WINFRIED Engelbrecht-Bresges has been elected president of the International Horse Sports Confederation (IHSC). He is the chief executive of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, a position he has held for 15 years. The IHSC was created nine years ago when the Fédération Equestre International (FEI) and the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) joined forces to create the first formal vehicle for co-operation between the world’s leading bodies for equestrian sport.

Goffs to sell dam of exciting Constitution Hill online

GOFFS will offer Queen Of The Stage, the dam of this year’s Cheltenham Festival Grade 1 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Constitution Hill, for sale online on May 24th. A 12-year-old mare by King’s Theatre, Queen Of The Stage is in foal to Blue Bresil and therefore the foal will be a full-sibling to Constitution Hill.

Tattersalls Online selling Profitable breeding right

JESSICA Harrington is selling two horses in next Thursday’s Tattersalls Online Sale. They are the three-year-old gelding Papa K (rated 74) and the unraced three-year-old colt Beginish, by New Approach. A total of 13 lots have been entered in the sale, headed by a breeding right to exciting young sire Profitable. Godolphin will offer the well-bred filly Teodolina, a 90-rated dual winner by Kodiac.
