DUBAWI Legend, son of champion sire and sire of sires Dubawi, is set to take up stallion duties under the Compas Stallions banner at Micheál Orlandi’s Starfield Stud in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

Trained by Hugo Palmer, Dubawi Legend won first time out as a two-year-old and was immediately pitched into stakes company. After finishing third in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York, he was second to champion Native Trail in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, earning him the second highest rating of any two-year-old in 2021.

Bayside Boy, now a Group 1 winner and stallion too, was third in that Dewhurst.

Last year Dubawi Legend campaigned mainly at sprint distances and was third to subsequent Group 1 winner and stallion Minzaal at Newbury in July before winning a Group 3 over six furlongs at the prestigious Baden-Baden meeting in August.

Bruce Raymond, director of racing for Rabbah, described Dubawi Legend as “a speedy, well-bred son of Dubawi. An impressive debut winner and Group 1 placed at two, he was even quicker at three when easily winning a six-furlong Group 3 race. We saw him as a Group 1 sprinter.”

Micheál Orlandi commented: “At a fee of €6,500, we are delighted to offer breeders the opportunity to use a precocious son of champion sire and sire of sires, Dubawi, the sire of established sires Night Of Thunder, New Bay and Zarak.

“We haven’t yet reached the crest of Dubawi’s wave as a sire of sires, so to stand a Group 1-performing son of his is very exciting. Dubawi Legend is the second highest rated two-year-old to retire to stud in 2023. A top-class sprinter, he is an exciting addition to the Compas Stallions roster. Limited breeding rights are available.”

Out of a Raven’s Pass mare, the UAE 1000 Guineas winner Lovely Pass, Dubawi Legend is bred on the same cross as Mishriff and Saffron Beach. At Starfield Stud he will stand alongside Far Above, Galileo Chrome, King Of Change, Kuroshio and Smooth Daddy.
