THE sole Northern-bred point-to-point winner in Ireland last Sunday was the Declan Queally-trained and ridden Fenno’s Storm who, on his second start between the flags, won the confined maiden at Dungarvan.

The six-year-old, who had three runs over hurdles when trained by John Kiely, is by September Storm and is the last of just four foals bred by John Kidd out of the four-time hurdle winner Sword Lady (by Broadsword) who comes from the family of Sports Reporter, Esha Ness and Hello Bud.

Kidd stood September Storm, the listed-winning full brother to Shirocco, until last year when the horse was sold to Sean Kinsella of Knockhouse Stud. “Gail and I have decided that our days of standing stallions here at Ballyash Stud are over,” reported John earlier this week.

“We struggled to attract mares to the horse in recent seasons and he will have much better opportunities at Knockhouse.

“We still have five broodmares here, all of whom are in foal. The best of them are probably Double Dream, the dam of the Paul Nicholls-trained Tagrita, who is in foal to Rathbarry’s Malinas, and Mrs Peachey (by Brian Boru) who is in foal to September Storm.”
