Letter to the Editor

Sir, - It was interesting to read the article in The Irish Field last week [February 18th, p18-19] on the success of Willie Mullins and how it was achieved through hard work.

In 1992 I had a filly that wasn’t sold at the sales. Willie and his wife Jackie drove up from Carlow and immediately agreed to lease her.

She won two races, including a handicap at the Curragh, and was returned to me with an improved valuation two years later.

There is no doubt that Willie is a gifted trainer who analyses each race carefully and is dedicated. He is a professional who conducts himself well at all times and is a great ambassador for the sport.

But it didn’t happen overnight and there was a willingness to train horses of every class as stepping stones to the top. - Yours etc.,
