THE final leg of the Jumpinaction.net secondary schools jumping league got under way on a very cold and frosty morning last Sunday at Killossery Lodge Stud.

The novice individual class ran first and it was Juliette Heather from the King’s Hospital who crossed the line in 38.20 to take home the winners rug in this class. The win also secured second place overall in the league. Maynooth Community School’s Kate Teahan was runner-up on the day, ahead of Lauren Weir representing St Andrew’s College.

Chloe Russell rode Bow Bow to fourth for St Joseph’s Navan while Poppy O’Dwyer and Puzzle finished in fifth which, when added to her points total, saw her claim the league title. The final place went to Sophie DeJong with Outrun Your Brother.

The team competition saw two through to the jump-off – Ashbourne Community College and The Institute of Education. First to go was Crea Byrne with Tiffin for Ashbourne who had a pole down while team mate Saoirse Kiernan jumped a good clear in 28.01.

Unfortunately the pressure was on for the Institute of Education causing them to finish with a total of 16 faults for their two riders Aisling and Zoe Bolton. However, the result made little difference to the overall league as the Institute ran out the winners. Third on the day was Colaiste De Lacy.

Local trainer Claire O’Connell taught son Dara O’Sullivan from Belvedere how to save time and he finished third.

Siobhain Flynn was in the line up again this week with Esano taking fourth, while Saoirse Kiernan from Ashbourne Community School slotted in to fifth. The last place went to Mountsackville student Sophie Quinn.

The Breakaway Campers Primary school’s novice individuals is perfect for those starting off in the interschools. There were 10 competitors who divided the medals with representatives from a wide variety of schools.

The Breakaway Campers Open individual had 37 starters all hoping for the holiday in the camper van. The winner was Chloe Dunne riding Wingfield into The Blue with Joseph Baker, coming from the Arkle dynasty, showing some speed to finish second in the class with I.C.Spots. St Gerard’s representative Isabelle Galligan rode Hero in to third while previous winner Alice Hartford had to settle for fourth place this week.

The Breakaway Campers Primary team competition had three teams through to the jump-off. First to go for St Mary’s Ashbourne, Regan Woods rode Sugar to finish clear along with team mate Lucy Flynn who rode Falcon to a clear and this was good enough for eventual second place.

Headfort School sent the Brennan sisters Isla and Ruby in to jump and both were clear in a combined time of 69.31 this was good enough to take home the winning rugs. St Andrew’s National School Curragha sent Kate Broderick and Freddie Greene in to jump and an unfortunate pole down from from Kate left them in third place.
