THE sport horse equivalent of the thoroughbred store sales, week two at Goresbridge focuses on the three-year-olds. An important date in the calendar for pinhookers and private buyers alike, and as of course a benchmark for the subsequent foal sales, trade over the three days is likely to be lively.

A strong catalogue features blacktype pedigrees in abundance, both for the show jumping and eventing disciplines.

Standing out among those forward is a close maternal relative to the Rome Grand Prix winner Zigali, as well others from the immediate families of the Grand Prix jumpers Solerina and Rincarina, On the event front, there is a gelding from the maternal family of several five-star horses, including the Andrew Nicholson-ridden Armada and Nereo.

Certainly, most of the influential sires are well represented, and heading the numerical list with a weighty 24 progeny is the Kennedy Brothers’ newcomer Vivant Van de Heffinck. The Co Wexford-based Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet is also well represented with 16 offered, while OBOS Quality and Sligo Candy Boy have 12 apiece. The thoroughbred sires also make an impact, with Pointilliste (6), Lucarelli (4), Island Commander (4) and Move To Strike (4) leading the way.
