SIXTEEN lots in the Goffs Orby Book 1 sold for €400,000 or more, and Ciaran Conroy’s Glenvale Stud was the most represented among this cohort, with three lots.

In addition to a Wootton Bassett colt who sold for €500,000, they sold a pair of fillies for €400,000 each.

On Tuesday, Mark McStay’s Avenue Bloodstock spent that amount on a No Nay Never filly out of the listed-placed Mizzen Mast mare Ultrasonic, from the family of dual Arc heroine Enable.

“She has been bought for an existing international client,” said McStay. “The sire is having a phenomenal year, it’s a great pedigree, and she’s a lovely filly, as nice as was on the ground this year. Plus the price was about right, knowing you always have to stretch for a No Nay Never filly. So what’s not to like? The trainer is yet to be decided.”

American purchasers played a prominent part at the Orby Sale, and on Tuesday agent Jacob West bought two Kingman fillies for leading US owner Mike Repole. Both are likely to be trained by Todd Pletcher.

The most expensive of the pair was a €400,000 daughter out of the Group 2 winner Bocca Baciata, making her a half-sister to Jessica Harrington’s Cork listed race winner three hours earlier, Foniska. The filly was bred by the Niarchos family.
