IT would be impossible to mention all the lots being consigned to the upcoming Goresbridge Go For Gold Sales by Meabh Bolger and Brian Flynn who are selling eight horses listed solely under their MBF Sporthorses banner and a further six in partnership with Jason Higgins.

Having been lying second after dressage with Flynn’s Metropole gelding MBF Back To Back in the CCI2*-L for six-year-olds, Bolger had a disappointingly wet ending to her debut ride at the recent world breeding championships for young event horses at Le Lion d’Angers.

There is a link to that French event in two of the three-year-olds among the Co Waterford couple’s consignment as both are by the Anglo Arab stallion Upsilon who was placed at Le Lion as both a six- and seven-year-old – before going on to record four wins and multiple placings at CIC3* level – and among whose many successful progeny is this year’s winner of that CCI2*-L, Golden de Beliard.

The first of Upsilon’s progeny due to come under the hammer is the Anglo European Studbook-registered MBF Insta (Lot 51). This chesnut gelding, who is out of the Osilvis mare Adora Silvi Mia, comes from the family of Annsfort Simba (CCI4* 8&9yo horses-S), Balham Houdini (CCI4*), Freedam (CSI4*), etc. The ISH-registered MBF Barravalley (Lot 82) is a grey out of the Ekstein mare Nothing Extra Added, a half-sister to the Ramiro B gelding Cooley Nothing Better B (CIC3*).

As with the sale in general, the majority of the MBF Sporthorses’ lots are ISH-registered but others include the Dutch Warmblood MBF Flintstone (Lot 4) who, being offered with Higgins Sporthorses, is a five-year-old grey gelding by Grandorado TN out of a Heartbreaker mare; with an unknown breed type, the KEC Maximum Joe gelding MBF Melbin (Lot 22) is out of a mare by the sprinter Midhish.

The three-year-old MBF Otasia (Lot 36) is a chesnut Dutch Warmblood gelding by Glasgow out of a Corland mare from the family of Rambo (CDI4*), Vaciende (CSI5*-W), etc; registered with the Warmblood Studbook of Ireland is MBF Kahneman (Lot 44) who is by Clarcon out of a Ulysses M2S half-sister to the Royal Bravour stallion Wang Chung M2S (CSI5*-W).

The catalogue also lists two AES geldings bred by Luc van Hollebeke, viz Gordon Hogan’s Okidoki d’Aubry (Lot 17), a Chapeau TN four-year-old out of an Accardi du Houssoit Z mare from the family of Diamant Minotiere (CSIO4*), and Higgins Sporthorses’ Captain d’Aubry (Lot 40), a three-year-old by Anayl d’Aubry out of a Dominator 2000 Z mare from the family of Rapsodie des Ajoncs (CCIO4*-NC-S).

The Doyle family from Co Carlow is consigning two lots, the first of whom is Kilcoltrim Kory (Lot 14), a four-year-old Plot Blue gelding who was bred by Aileen Doyle out of the Cavalier Royale mare Cavimperius. The bay is thus a half-brother to the Touchdown gelding A Touch Imperious (CSIO5*-NC) and to the Chacco Blue mare Kilcoltrim Blue (CSI3*).

Seamus Carew’s home-bred Ramonaa C (Lot 19), who is by Clarimo out of Happy Choice (by Aram), was placed in three of her four starts in EI90 classes. This filly was also fourth in the national eventing discovery class at the Millstreet international in August and second in the Horse Sport Ireland four-year-old eventing development series final at the Ballindenisk international the following month.
