1.25 Williamhill.ie Irish EBF Maiden 7f

Espionage is a likely winner. He made a bright start to his career at Galway earlier this month when chasing home his smart looking stablemate Alexandroupolis where he was noted putting in some good late work. It is perhaps a slight concern that he is dropping back in distance but he should sharpen up as a result of that initial experience.

He might have most to fear from Dark Side who made a bright start to his career at Cork earlier in the month when chasing home Imadpour. Dark Side will improve plenty for that run and looks another leading contender. Walsingham is an interesting newcomer. He is an own-brother to his trainer’s high class Duke De Sessa and holds an entry in next year’s Irish 2000 Guineas.

SELECTION: ESPIONAGE

A tentative vote goes to the newcomer Cape Bridgewater. This Australia colt represents top connections and he is out of a half-sister to the top class Ghanaati. It wouldn’t come as a great surprise if he were good enough to win. Union Flag is a potentially interesting rival. He stepped forward from his debut to run a very reasonable fifth in a Gowran maiden last month from which the second and third have both won since. There is surely more to come from him. Starry Heavens has plenty of experience to call upon and a repeat of any of her three runs to date would put her into contention.

SELECTION: CAPE BRIDGEWATER

Lord Massusus is put forward in the hope that he can follow up his win in a one-mile nursery at Listowel on Tuesday. The drop back to this distance is a major concern for the 86-rated gelding but he did show plenty of dash when second in a seven-furlong Gowran maiden last month and the potentially slow ground should work in his favour while he has probably improved a good deal since he last ran over this trip.

Freedom Falls has run to a solid standard on her first three outings. Last time out she posted a cracking effort to be beaten less than two lengths into fourth in the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes. If she can match that form she will mount a strong challenge. The 100/1 Naas maiden winner Winemaker is another that warrants due consideration.

SELECTION: LORD MASSUSUS

3.05 William Hill Ireland Renaissance Stakes (Group 3) 6f

He might have a couple of questions to answer at present but Art Power is a quality sprinter who dominated last year’s edition of this race and it wouldn’t shock if he were to make it back to back wins this time. He was having his first run of the year when showing up well to take fourth in a seven-furlong Group 2 at York but he didn’t fire in the Haydock Sprint Cup next time. He is easily forgiven that below par effort and is much better judged on his form in top sprints last year.

He can deal with Ano Syra who possibly found five furlongs on quick ground at Tipperary last month a shade on the sharp side. Her previous second to Go Bears Go in a Group 3 over this course and distance is a good run. Just Beautiful could be very interesting now that her attentions are turned back to sprinting.

SELECTION: ART POWER

Next best: Ano Syra

3.40 Weld Park Stakes (Group 3) 7f

Caroline Street can take advantage of a switch back to fillies only company following her honourable second Auguste Rodin in a one-mile Group 2 at Leopardstown a couple of weeks ago. Also a one-mile maiden winner at Leopardstown during the summer, she shaped far better than the final result would suggest when fading in the last furlong to finish sixth to Aspen Grove in a Group 3 here late last month. She will be quite at home dropping back to this trip and can deal with Clever And Cool.

The latter won nicely at Cork earlier in the month on her debut and then ran very well a few days later to finish fourth to Zarinsk in a seven-furlong listed event at Leopardstown. Maybe Just Maybe is a solid sort who should again hold her own in this company while Keep In Touch is respected as she looks to build on her Galway maiden triumph.

SELECTION: CAROLINE STREET

4.15 Friends Of The Curragh Irish Cesarewitch (0-110) 2m 124yds

A huge field and a very competitive one for this colossal prize. Cleveland has plenty of weight but has plenty of class too and from a low draw he might emerge victorious. One of nine runners in the race for Joseph O’Brien, he is 9lbs higher than when winning the Chester Cup in May. He has since filled the runner-up spot in a Royal Ascot handicap and a Group 3 at Leopardstown and there is a good chance he can progress further on his return to this trip.

The Grade 1-winning hurdler Echoes In Rain has been kept under wraps for two months following her victory in the amateur rider’s handicap on the opening night of the Galway Festival. A 9lb higher mark is unlikely to prevent her from playing a major role.

Another likely player from that Galway race is her stablemate Lots Of Joy who was making her Irish debut there having previously been based in Scandinavia. There is surely more to come from her. At the foot of the weights Waterville looks a contender. He was costly to follow early in the season but he bolted up in a handicap over this trip during the summer and his latest second to Point King is a good effort in light of the latter’s subsequent listed race triumph. French Claim is another to keep in mind as this trip should suit him.

SELECTION: CLEVELAND

Amusement might prevail in first-time blinkers. She has shown a solid level of form to date and her efforts that have seen her reach the frame in maidens won by Library and Caroline Street would suggest that she will be very competitive off a mark of 79. Her latest fourth to Be Happy at Cork was another solid effort.

Semblance Of Order looks interesting as he lines up in a first time visor. He has shown plenty of ability in maidens and comes here off a creditable second to Panic Alarm at Down Royal. These might be the two to focus on.

Hibernia Oppositus is a tentative choice. He has been handed a mark of 77 after beginning his career with two solid runs. He was making his first appearance since March when finishing fourth to Smooth Tom over this course and distance last month and will improve from that outing. The race contains a few interesting newcomers with Harley Street being an own-brother to his yard’s Group 3 winner Glounthaune. Imaginarium is a Make Believe half-brother to a number of winners and is a newcomer of note from another leading yard.

SELECTION: HIBERNIA OPPOSITUS
