A PAIR of Group 1 winning juveniles on the same weekend is a pretty impressive feat, and one that the Irish National Stud’s Invincible Spirit achieved last Saturday and Sunday when Magna Grecia captured the Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster, 24 hours before Royal Meeting landed the Criterium International at Chantilly.

It was 16 years ago that the son of Green Desert (Danzig) gained the most important of his seven career victories, all over six furlongs, in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Sandown Park. He was then a five-year-old and was adding to a win in the Group 3 Duke Of York Stakes the same season. A listed winner at two who drew a blank in his second season, he travelled to Ireland at four to win a Group 3 at the Curragh.
