JOHN Bourke’s Hyde Park Stud in Killucan, Co Westmeath, dominated this week’s Osarus Breeze Up Sale in La Teste De Buch in south-west France, an hour’s drive from Bordeaux.

Bourke was responsible for 14 of the 32 lots offered and half of his consignment sold, on a day when the overall clearance rate was 69%. The average price for the session was €12,778, down 20% on last year. The catalogue was significantly smaller than the year before.

The top price paid on the day was €37,000 for a filly by City Light consigned by a French vendor and bought by Marseilles trainer Nicolas Perret.

Mickey Cleere (MC Thoroughbreds) had two in the sale - neither of which sold - and one of them, a Cotai Glory colt, reached €38,000 in the ring before being taken home.

The best of the Hyde Park consignment was Lot 1, a colt by Goken, who was bought by Chantilly trainer Maurizio Guarnieri for €25,000.

A Dark Angel bought for just £8,000 at Doncaster last August was sold by O’Donnell Bloodstock for €21,000, again snapped up by Nicolas Perret.

Colm Kennedy’s Drumphea Stables in Co Carlow sold a Soldier’s Call filly for €12,000 and a Sands Of Mali filly for €5,000, while Pierce Gallagher’s Gourneen Stables offloaded a Dream Ahead filly for €10,000. Mike Conaghan’s Evergreen Stud sold a Smooth Daddy colt for €9,000.
