THE three-day Goffs Autumn Yearling Sale kicked off on Monday afternoon with a session which saw the aggregate and average rise by 13% and 7% compared with 12 months ago, while the median price was up 63%.

Top price on the day was the €48,000 paid for a Sioux Nation filly. Consigned by Galbertstown Stables, she is out of the unraced Circus Tent (by Fastnet Rock) and was bought by agent Hamish Macauley on behalf of Rockfield Farm in Cork.

“I was taking instructions from Charles Shanahan," Macauley explained. "She is to breeze next year.” The dam is a half-sister to the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes winner Gorella and Group 2 winner Royal Intervention.

Macauley was also joint-purchaser, with Jerry Horan, for a Starman colt from Baroda Stud who made €45,000. He is out of the three-time winner Artistic Melody, who was trained by Ger Lyons.

Jim Bolger is selling a significant number of yearlings at this sale through Clare Manning's Boherguy Stud. The consignment included a Dawn Approach half-brother to five winners who was bought by agent Bobby O'Ryan for €42,000.

O’Ryan, who was busy on Monday, said: “He is a lovely horse with a great pedigree. He will go into training, most probably in Ireland.”

Rathbarry Stud sold a State Of Rest filly for €42,000 to Wilie Slattery of Meadowview Stables. She will be prepared for the breeze-up sales.

Rathbarry also sold a son of Kodi Bear for €30,000, while Derrinstown Stud sold a Dark Angel filly for €24,000 to John Walsh Bloodstock.

Drumachon Stud sold a daughter of Inns Of Court to Kevin Ross Bloodstock, on behalf of Gavin Cromwell, for 27,000.

The DNA Equine partnership of Donna Cowens and Nicky Souza de Oliviera bought an Inns Of Court filly for €24,000. The filly had been purchased privately by Ladytown Stud at the February Sale for just €1,000 after being led out unsold.
