GEORG Von Opel of Gestüt Westerberg struck for two blue-blooded fillies. They were headed by the Group 3 Italian St Leger runner-up Tangut, a four-year-old daughter of Adlerflug from Ecurie des Monceaux.

The hammer fell at €640,000 for the full-sister to the Group 2 Diana-Trial winner Tusked Wings, and their placed half-sister Tijuana is the dam of this year’s Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Torquator Tasso and one of the season’s leading German juvenile Tunnes. The filly’s third dam is Allegretta, dam of Urban Sea and the Group 1 2000 Guineas winner King’s Best.

Acting on behalf of the purchaser, Jamie McCalmont said: “We’re very happy to invest in this family. It’s a great German line. She’s been bought for George von Opel of Gestüt Westerberg. He already has some broodmares in association with Coolmore. She may stay in training; we haven’t decided that yet.”

Also on the Westerburg purchase list was the Soldier Hollow four-year-old Deia, and she cost €600,000. The filly was unsold at the same sale last year at €220,000 when she was a stakes-placed winner. This year she won a listed race in Germany, was group-placed, and her value consequently soared. She has the added attraction of being a full-sister to both the Group 1 winner Dschingis Secret and the Group 3 winner and Group 1 German Derby second Destino.
