THE fifth leg of the Jumpinaction.net Secondary Schools Jumping League got under way at Killossery Lodge Stud with the novice individual class hosted first.

Prosperous student Mya Courtney rode Cleo over the line in a time of 33.72 seconds to take home the winner’s rug.

Taking second was previous winner Sophie Crosthwaite from St Andrew’s with Ballydeely Kate who posted 35.21. Another regular in the line-up was Juliet Heather from The King’s Hospital who took third. Ratoath College student Maggi Caffrey was fourth. Grange Community College went home with fifth when Kelsey O’Mahony (Ti Power) posted 41.08 while the final place went to Sophie Dejong from Lusk Community College.

The Jumpinaction.net Secondary Schools team competition saw 13 teams jumping for the prizes. Louise McEntaggart’s track caused a few problems with only four teams finishing on zero faults.

First to jump was the Institute of Education’s Aisling Rice and Siobhan Doyle; both posted fast clears to take the lead, which they held, to take home the winners’ rugs. Ashbourne Community School were also clear but not quite as quick to finish second. Loreto Balbriggan were third while O’Carolan College, with an unfortunate four faults, had to settle for the fourth spot. Mount Sackville red/Grange team took fifth and Maynooth came in sixth.

In the 90/95cm Championship, Ruari O’Neill set a scorching time of 33.59 but unfortunately took the back rail off fence 11 and had to settle for fifth. Sheana Fitzpatrick was closest to the time in 33.78 and having left all the fences standing, took home the rug. Dara O’Sullivan also galloped around quick enough to take second. Dundalk Grammar had Robyn Murray in the line-up as she took third place. O’Carolan College went home with fourth, courtesy of Grace Rooney, while the final rosette went to Amy Sutton from St Ciaran’s Community School.

The Breakaway Campers Primary school’s novice individuals class was held in the outdoor arena and five divided the medals - Scoil Olibheir Naofa Kilcloon had Lily Dunne with Killeaney Limited Edition, St Mary’s Maynooth had Rhys Robinson with Indie, St Andrew’s Curragha had Katie Tierney (Pebbles), Gael Scoil Cnoc Liamhna’s representative was Grace Lawlor (Silver Bullitt) and Polly Geraghty rode Buddy.

The Breakaway Campers open individual had 29 starters. The winner was Kilcloon National School’s Chloe Dunne (Lady West) who also picked up third place (Wingfield into Blue). Local rider Joseph Baker (IC Spots) took second. Taking fourth slot was Odran King (Rooney). Lauren Reynolds, a pupil at Lismullen, rode Cotterstown Dun in to fifth and St Patrick’s NS pupil Isabel Westphal took sixth.

The Breakaway Campers Primary team competition had four teams through to the jump-off. St Gerard’s Junior School’s Saoirse Di Biasi and Isabelle Galligan crossed the finish line with the fastest combined time to take home the rugs. Both of the teams for Scoil Oilibhear Naofa Kilcloon jumped clear, Oscar Buckley (Abbeylands Supreme) and team mate Micheal Dunne (Parcglass Golden Venture), also clear, and their combined total was good enough for fourth.

Kilcloon team’s Chloe Dunne (Lady West) who jumped a fast clear in 26.94 and team mate Maisey Connolly (Maize May Blaze), also clear, proved good enough to finish second. St Andrew’s Curragha had both Niall Horgan and Ann May Keogh jump clear which was enough for third. Lismullen NS took fifth and the final place went to the riders from St Andrews/Gaescoil na Cille.
