HAVING had time to just glance through last Saturday’s edition of The Irish Field before heading back to the Tattersalls Ireland July Show last Sunday morning, one article to catch my eye was that of Richard McCormick and his recollection of Hardboy’s victory in the 1972 Galway Hurdle.

I hadn’t thought of the former trainer and veterinary surgeon in some time but lo and behold, when I arrived at the show, wasn’t he the first person I met when I set off with purpose to the working hunter ring. Now based in nearby Dunboyne, Richard was at Tattersalls promoting his Belmont Equine Products whose brand ambassadors include show horse producer and rider Jennifer Kennedy.
