SAFFRON Beach (116) routed a field of high-class fillies and mares to land the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket, justifying the confidence of her trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam, who was landing a first success at the highest level.

William Buick deputised for usual jockey Adam Kirby and gave the daughter of New Bay a no-nonsense ride from the front to ensure there was no hiding place for her rivals. After gathering stride, the 1000 Guineas runner-up reeled off five successive sub-12-second furlongs which meant on reaching the two-furlong marker there was not a rival within striking distance going well enough to mount a serious challenge.
