THERE are two 100-points-to-the-winner Kentucky Derby trials up for decision tonight at Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn.

In the Arkansas Derby, the intrigue is provided when D Wayne Lukas pitches in his filly Secret Oath in against eight colts. An impressive winner of both her starts at this track this season, she won the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes, coming through to go clear by seven and a half lengths and the daughter of Arrogate looks set to go off favourite.

The one-eyed gelding Un Ojo was a shock winner of the trial for this race, the Grade 2 Rebel last month over a fast surface. The third, fourth and fifth there, Barber Road, Kavod and Chasing Time re-oppose.

We The People is the interesting colt, trained by Rodolphe Brisset who was involved in Justify’s early training. The Constitution colt is two from two on his only two starts, the first on February 12th, having not run at two.

The Into Mischief colt Doppelganger trained by Tim Yakteen is the likely second favourite and comes of a second place to the highly regarded Forbidden Kingdom in the Grade 2 San Felipe at Santa Anita.

The Florida Derby (Sky Sports 11.38pm) looks a tight contest with little to split the top four in the market.

After a one-two finish in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes in early February, White Abarrio and Simplification meet again with the Sam F. Davis Stakes and Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby winner Classic Causeway also firmly in the mix along with Todd Pletcher’s Tapit colt Charge It.

The Florida Derby, which has produced 24 Kentucky Derby winners, has points on a 100-40-20-10 scale to its top-four finishers.

Simplification is morning-line favourite, though he finished four and a half lengths behind White Abarrio in the Holy Bull. There he missed the break and raced wide and was not hard ridden and he went on to win the March 5th Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes.

Simplification has already earned sufficient points to be included in the Kentucky Derby field. The Not This Time colt has won races on the lead or from off the pace. He drew stall three, with Jose Ortiz on board. Quick-starting Classic Causeway could prove the likely pacesetter from stall two in the nine-furlong race, having made all for a two-and-a-half-length win in Tampa Bay last time.

Others to consider in the race include fast maiden winner Charge It and White Abarrio, who break alongside one another. Charge It from stall six is co-third choice at 7/2 just behind White Abarrio at 3/1.
