ONE of Ireland’s top sport horse breeders, Wicklow’s Ronan Rothwell, is offering his entire crop (16) of show jumping foals this year, plus an embryo bred in the purple, for auction from Monday, August 16th to Monday, August 23rd 2021. Lot 1 An unsexed embryo by Chacco Blue out of Arina. This offering is the jewel in the crown of this year’s Rothwell collection. World number one show jumping sire Chacco Blue’s progeny received the ultimate accolade with Britain’s Ben Maher winning individual Olympic gold at Tokyo with the superstar Explosion W. At the recent Flanders Foal Auction, two Chacco Blue foals fetched €60,000 each. On the dam side, Arina, a daughter of Crown Z from the dam line of Ratina Z, is a proven mother of high-quality jumpers. Her nine-year-old daughter Boleybawn Aasha is successful at 1.50m level with Norwegian young rider, Mira Oliva Hodial. Arina’s eight-year-old son, Boleybawn Cooley, has placed in 1.45m classes with America’s Charlotte Jacobs. Another Grand Prix winner out of Arina is the speedy son of Ars Vivendi, Boleybawn Actor, winner of several young horse classes in Ireland with Darragh Ryan, now competing at 1.45m level in Germany. Boleybawn Larina qualified for the RDS four-year-old Championships, was a winner in five-year-old Irish Sport Horse classes and has been sold to America. Another daughter Boleybawn Mystic was fifth in the five-year-olds in Dublin and is a prolific broodmare at Ballypatrick Stables. Most recently, Boleybawn Alton became Arina’s fifth offspring to qualify for the RDS. Arina embarked on her embryo transfer programme in 2015 which has resulted in 17 horses sired by some very high profile stallions. These include Boleybawn Alvaro, the exceptionally talented three-year-old stallion son of Dominator Z.

Lot 2 Boleybawn Insight, a colt by Conthargos out of In Style VK, whose granddam is a full sister to the legendary Ratina Z \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 2 Boleybawn Insight is a very attractive son of Conthargos and In Style VK. He is extremely light on his feet, athletic and correct. His sire Conthargos is tipped to be the future number one stallion. Insight’s dam, In Style VK, a young mare from a top family, is already producing jumpers of high talent. Her grandam is a full-sister of the world famous Ratina Z, winner of more championship gold medals than any other horse. She is a maternal sister to five-star Grand Prix horses including Dino W (1.60m), a prolific winner for Bertram Allen, and the 1.60m winner Van Dutch. In Style VK’s sister Charlotte Z’s foal sold for €30,000 at the Flanders Foal Auction.

Lot 3 Boleybawn Carter (by Castlefield Kingston (Cinsey) out of D'amour du Nenuphar (Vagabond de la Pomme - Diamant de Semilly) \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 3 Boleybawn Carter is a tall and elegant foal with a lot of blood, a super temperament and excellent movement. By Castlefield Kingston, a six-year-old son of Cinsey, brings blood, but also a cool mind. Boleybawn Carter’s dam, D’amour du Nenuphar, a daughter of Vagabond de la Pomme and a granddaughter of Diamant de Semilly, is just eight. As a seven-year-old, she was clear in her first 1.40m National Grand Prix with Ger O’Neill. This season she qualified for the eight- and nine-year-olds at the RDS and recently jumped spectacularly in her first 1.50m New Heights Grand Prix at Balmoral.

Lot 4 Boleybawn Tango - a colt by Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve out of Bellini Van Overis \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 4 Boleybawn Tango is an excellent type of colt. He is well built, yet has blood and has particularly good natural balance. His sire, Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve, jumped with Roelof Bril at 1.60m level. International jumpers like Darry Lou, Tobago Z, Vigaro or Billy Angelo are typical of Tangelo’s offspring. Tango’s dam, Bellini Van Overis, is just a six-year-old and is in training at Boleybawn, showing a lot of promise in the ring with Quinn McIlhinney. She was the champion of the four-year-old mares at the Horse Sport Ireland loose jumping at Warrington Equestrian. She is by Douglas and is a sister to two Grand Prix horses in Bisous van Overis Z and Kentucky van Overis Z.

Lot 5 Fairwood Kingston - a colt by Castlefield Kingston out of Boleybawn Pearl \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 5 Fairwood Kingston is a stunning colt with excellent paces. His sire is Castlefield Kingston (profiled above) and his dam Boleybawn Pearl was a very talented loose jumper, with endless scope and fabulous natural technique. Her first progeny by Romanov shows good promise with her current owners and a two-year-old daughter by Emerald, sold to Switzerland, looks extra special loose jumping. Pearl is also a sister to 1.55m performer Boleybawn Perfection.

Lot 6 Boleybawn Jaxon is by Aganix du Seigneur out of Caplina JS \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 6 Boleybawn Jaxon is a tall colt with a huge trot and canter. He is from a dam that has endless natural ability and by one of the most exciting sires in Europe in Aganix du Seigneur. His dam Caplina JS has enormous natural ability and has bred some lovely foals with her eldest being a four-year-old that is with the UK’s Pippa Goddard. Caplina has no recorded siblings in the first or second generation but it’s no surprise that 1.40 jumpers Carino 171 and Cenzo 2 are in her dam line.

Lot 7 FWS Vino Rouge is by Rock n Roll ter Putte out of Vino Bianco Van Overis \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 7 FWS Vino Rouge is a colt with exceptional paces. Both his sire (Rock n Roll ter Putte) and dam (Vino Bianco Van Overis) will be big names of the future. Rock n Roll is a full-brother to 1.60m horses Elvis ter Putte and Favourite Ask who have produced several top horses. He is at stud and is in training at Rio Olympian Greg Broderick’s Ballypatrick Stables. His dam Vino Bianco Van Overis is a beautiful five-year-old daughter of Vingino. Already a winner of the Horse Sport Ireland 3yo Loose jumping Championships at Warrington Equestrian, the Irish Breeders’ Classic four-year-old round one and placed second in the 5yo Championship at Portmore this season.

Lot 8 is a pretty filly from the sire line of Rock n Roll and the dam line of In Style VK \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 8 Boleybawn Layla is a pretty filly with a fantastic pedigree. She is well-balanced and looks a perfect type for jumping and breeding. Both her dam line (In Style VK) and sire line (Rock n Roll) are littered with 1.60m jumpers and profiled above.

Lot 9 Fairwood Cornet Bouncer is a son of Castlefield Cornet out of a Diarado mare \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 9 Fairwood Cornet Bouncer is a tall colt with a super attitude and a wonderful temperament. His sire, Castlefield Cornet, is a beautiful son of Cornet Obolensky. He is out of a Diarado mare – a beautiful cross with Cornet Obolensky bringing a wealth of positive jumping and riding traits. His dam, Ballinabarney Cool Bouncer, started her career with Paul O’Shea and qualified for the RDS 4yo Championships, placing 11th. The following season she qualified for the RDS 5yo Championships with Steven Smith but missed out due to a paddock injury. She is a sister to the three-star eventer Ballinabarney Somerton and is from the dam line of 1.50m jumpers PLS Halo Diamond and Kildalton Holly.

Lot 10 Boleybawn Santos is a colt by Super Gold out of In Style VK \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 10 Boleybawn Santos is a young colt but already looks to have a powerful canter and is a nice balanced type. His sire Super Gold is only four but already looks to be a superstar in the making. In the care of Shane Breen, this son of Stakkato Gold is certain to be a big name in the future. His dam, In Style VK, is profiled above.

Lot 11 Boleybawn Madison is a filly by Rock n Roll ter Putte out of Kalimera van de Nethe Z \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 11 Boleybawn Madison is a very pretty filly, extremely light on her feet with a lot of blood. Her sire is Rock n Roll ter Putte (see above). Her dam Kalimera van de Nethe Z is a six-year-old competing in the Boleybawn stable. She is an electric jumper with fantastic will to win. Kalimera is by Kasanova de la Pomme jumping with Karaline de Brabander and is from the dam line of 1.45m horse Luigi van de Nethe, successful with Olive Clarke, 1.45m jumpers Carmen Mr Z and Biegel JR Z.

Lot 12 Boleybawn Gemma is a very pretty filly, extremely light on her feet and moves with sharp reflexes. She is a sister to one of the Boleybawn yard favourites, Boleybawn Evie. Her sire is Castlefield Kingston. Her dam, Emma van de wolfsgracht, was a winner at 1.35m level but got injured. Her first produce is Boleybawn Evie who qualified for the RDS five-year-old Championships this year and was one of only four from 100 competitors to keep a clean sheet in the ISH Studbook class at Mullingar.

Lot 13 Boleybawn Ariel. This fine colt was only born on August 8th but already looks a tall imposing type suitable for the sport and breeding. His sire Aganix du Seigneur and his dam, In Style VK, are both profiled above.

Lot 14 Boleybawn Golddust, a colt by Super Gold out of Boleybawn Belina \ Tadhg Ryan Bit Media

Lot 14 Boleybawn Golddust. Certainly a head turner, this colt stands out with his unusual markings. Already his sire’s Super Gold’s amazing canter can be seen shining out of him. His dam, Boleybawn Belina, is just four and is competing in Norway. She is a daughter of Marcus Ehning’s jumping supremo, Plot Blue. Belina is a daughter of the nine-year-old rising star, Boleybawn Aasha (profiled above).

Lot 16 Boleybawn Sylvia. A very young filly just born on July 20th, she looks to have a powerful canter already and a good type for show jumping and breeding. From an exceptional family of jumpers and by a most promising young sire in Super Gold out of In Style VK (both profiled above).

Lot 17 Boleybawn Willow. Born on August 8th, he looks a tall imposing type. His sire is Aganix du Seigneur and his dam Boleybawn Amy is a four-year-old by one of the world’s leading sires, Kannan. She placed third in the Irish Breeders’ Classic 3yo Loose Jumping Final and started in competition under saddle this season. Her dam, Arina, has produced a host of quality jumpers.
