1.00 Racing Again Tomorrow Maiden Hurdle 2m

Joyeux Machin catches the eye making his hurdling debut at his local track. The Paul Nolan-trained gelding finished second on his racecourse debut in a decent Leopardstown bumper last Christmas, before going one better at Navan the following month. Clearly not himself when pulled up in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham last time, he subsequently disappointed when well beaten at Punchestown. Although having something to prove on this seasonal return, he is the class act if back to anything like his best.

Feddans has shaped with promise on both starts over hurdles, particularly at Punchestown last time. If the seven-year-old is at her peak on her first run since January, she should be involved.

Happywifehappylife could be good enough to make a winning debut for John McConnell. Despite retaining her maiden status on the flat, the daughter of Camelot has run some promising races. She has already proven her ability to handle testing ground, so provided she is forward enough on her first start over hurdles, she should be tough to beat.

Vocito has yet to win in 10 starts over flights but has at least been placed on four of those. The Eoin Doyle-trained gelding is vulnerable to an unexposed contender but does have crucial hurdling experience.

My Design could be nicely treated at these weights, especially when taking Kieren Buckley’s valuable 5lb claim into account. A smart novice for Shane Patrick O’Brien last season, the seven-year-old has her first start for Declan Queally here. Some of her placed form in maiden hurdles for her previous trainer reads very well in the context of this race.

Sea Sessions was a tough, admirable juvenile last term and has the benefit of a recent outing on the flat. Ross O’Sullivan has been having a fantastic year, so anything that he runs should be worthy of a second look.

Crimson Chief appears to hold bright prospects of completing his hat-trick. The 10-year-old started his winning sequence over fences at Kilbeggan in August, then reverted to hurdles when easily scoring at Galway last time. Despite an 8lbs for that facile success, the John Morrison-trained gelding looks as though he could have a bit more in hand.

Fox Le Bel continues to run well without winning. The Liz Doyle-trained gelding will eventually get his turn and is certainly one of the more likely contenders in a weak affair.

Gold Cup Bailly can make a winning debut over fences for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede. A winning point-to-pointer, the six-year-old was placed on all three maiden hurdle runs last year. Although clearly marking time before embarking on a chasing campaign this season, the experience he gained can stand to him.

Fameaftertheglory also won his point-to-point, before later taking a bumper at this track. However, after a poor round of jumping on his chasing debut at Galway, he will need to be much sharper in that department.

Optional Mix can gain a deserved success having just lost out at Limerick last time. The Eoin Doyle-trained mare made much of the running on that occasion and battled back well once headed.

Despite being raised 2lb for that near miss, the daughter of Carlotamix can record the third win of her career.

Pat Coyne, who bids for a hat-trick after wins at Tramore and Listowel, has to be respected. The handicapper has had his say since the second success but John Queally has a gelding that is clearly at the top of his game right now.

SELECTION: OPTIMAL MIX

Ballycashin made a pleasing debut when third over the course and distance in May, then finished fifth at Punchestown on her return. With the benefit of that recent outing under her belt, the Tony Mullins-trained mare should take the beating here.

It looks significant that Jody Townend, who has ridden the five-year-old on both previous starts, remains loyal.

New York Style is an interesting newcomer representing Henry De Bromhead and owner Mark Dobbin. A half-sister to a dual hurdle winner, she is certainly bred for the National Hunt game.
