WHEN racing was taking place at Downpatrick on Monday, one of the town’s native sons, Danny McMenamin, was in action at Cartmel where he won the concluding handicap chase on the Laura Morgan-trained Achille Des Rocs.

Three days earlier, riding the seven-year-old Califet mare Wudya for Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith, he won the near two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase at Sedgefield where there were wins for the former Caroline McCaldin-trained Saint Polo and Gerald Quinn’s former charge Getaway Vic.
