AIDAN O'Brien's globetrotting filly Magic Wand put up a gallant performance in the Group 1 Longines Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin but failed by the narrowest of margins to land the spoils.

The four-year-old daughter of Galileo, who had to be switched for a clear run a furlong and a half from home, was short-headed by the Yoshihiro Hatakeyama-trained Win Bright.

That five-year-old son of Stay Gold was partnered by Masami Matsuoka, with Ryan Moore aboard Magic Wand. The victory capped a tremendous day for the Japanese raiders who won three of the four Group 1s on the card.

In addition to the Ballydoyle challenger, Europe was represented in the field by Edisa, a three-year-old daughter of Kitten's Joy trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre. She kept on well in the closing stages but had to settle for fifth, beaten by a total of two and a quarter lengths.
