This doesn’t look an overly deep race and a chance is taken on Baby Chou improving for the switch to hurdles, having shown some minor promise in three bumpers this season. She has the potential to prove better over an obstacle, and her half-sister Mighty Meggsie also finished second in her two appearances at Tramore. Silent Approach, a half-sister to the useful Journey With Me by Walk In The Park, shouldn’t be far away on the basis of her last two efforts.

Despite having to carry an 8lb penalty and arriving here with three seconds and two thirds from his last six starts, it’s difficult to look beyond Viceregent for Charles and Philip Byrnes. He’s generally consistent and has better form than most of his rivals. Potters Party should be up to winning a race of this nature and comes out best at the weights, but he has shaped as though a greater stamina test would suit on a few occasions.

Port Rashid is pushing on in years as a 12-year-old but this looks a suitable assignment for the veteran, who has recorded half of his four career wins at this particular Tramore meeting. He showed he’s still capable of popping up in a race like this when winning at Thurles two starts ago, and he represents Jody and Tim Townend, who are fresh from a winner at Cork on Easter Monday. Locally-trained Walk In The Park mare Walk Out hasn’t set the world alight as of yet but could be much more at home now switching to handicap company.

Unheralded proved disappointing on his last start but there was some encouragement to be taken from his previous fifth in a Clonmel maiden hurdle and switching to handicap company for the first time off a mark of 95 ought to suit him. An 8lb rise for Mighty Jeremy’s recent Clonmel success makes his task much tougher but he should still be on the premises.

4.00 Tramore Racecourse Directors Chase 2m 5f 126yds

An excellent piece of placing from the Willie Mullins team should see Saint Sam get back to winning ways after finishing down the field in the Coral Cup at last month’s Cheltenham Festival. He hasn’t always been the most bombproof of operators, as evidenced by his odds-on defeat at Leopardstown two starts ago, but he has a clear class edge over his two rivals. Halsafari is rated just 110 but he may be able to fill the second spot as Minella Escape embarks on a bit of a retrieval mission.

4.35 Book A Table For The August Festival Handicap Chase 2m 5f 126yds

Cases can be made for a few of these but Old Soul delivered a nice performance when winning on his third start over fences at Clonmel 10 days ago and he could be open to more improvement than the majority of his rivals here. Brideswell Lad is capable of winning a race off his mark and might be better suited to this test than what he faced last time on heavy ground at Wexford when slightly hampered at the third last.

A tricky contest to conclude proceedings. Jack Holiday won this race two years ago and should be in the thick of things again if the handicapper doesn’t already have his measure off a mark of 106. He has run well off similar ratings in the past and Philip Byrnes’ 5lb claim will be a help. This will be his first start for 185 days, but his previous win in the race came on the back of a 196-day break. Norwigi is weighted to win one of these off her rating of 105 but has been expensive to follow over fences (0-12 record).
