THE rematch between Delacroix and Ombudsman in next Wednesday’s Juddmonte International promises to be the highlight of next week’s four-day Ebor meeting at York.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Delacroix swooped late to defeat Ombudsman in the Eclipse Stakes and bookmakers only narrowly make the Irish three-year-old favourite to confirm the form over the year-older Ombudsman, who represents Godolphin and the Gosden stable.

The 10-furlong Group 1 is by no means a two-horse race as top-class Japanese colt Danon Decile is third favourite, ahead of the filly See The Fire, French hope Daryz and the consistent and classy Anmaat.

On the same card dual Derby winner Lambourn is the ante-post odds-on favourite to defy a 5lb penalty in the Great Voltigeur Stakes.

His biggest danger looks to be Paddy Twomey’s unbeaten Royal Ascot winner Carmers, who himself carries a 3lb penalty. With Billy Lee still injured, Colin Keane has been booked to ride the Queen’s Vase winner.

Next Thursday Aidan O’Brien is set to send dual Oaks winner Minnie Hauk to the Knavesmire for the Yorkshire Oaks. The Frankel filly is odds-on to win the 12-furlong race which has attracted just six entries, four of which are trained by O’Brien. David O’Meara’s Estrange is second favourite.

On Friday all eyes will be on the Nunthorpe Stakes which see two Irish-trained horses at the top of the market. Ger Lyons supplies the likely favourite in Lady Iman, a two-year-old filly who has won four of her five starts this term.

Getting all the allowances she is set to carry just 8st and connections have booked local lightweight Joe Fanning (54) to do the steering. Kingsgate Native (2007) and Lyric Fantasy (1992) are the most recent two-year-old winners of the five-furlong all-aged stakes.

The Gimcrack and Lonsdale Stakes also form part of the Friday card, while the Saturday twin highlights are the Ebor Handicap and the upgraded Group 1 City of York Stakes over seven furlongs.
