ROSSCARBERY (104) gained quick compensation for her Curragh disqualification with a narrow victory in the Group 3 Stanerra Stakes, although in terms of her performance against the clock, Paddy Twomey’s filly was below her Group 1 achievement.

Billy Lee always had the daughter of Sea The Stars well positioned before striking for home passing the two furlong marker when an initial burst of speed took her clear. However, this was not reflected in the winning margin or the closing sectional of 38.11s, which was surpassed by other winners on the evening.

My suggestion is the four-year-old is more effective at shorter than a mile and six furlongs and will rate higher when dropped back in trip. The entry in the Yorkshire Oaks looks the more suitable option of her entries.

The standout performance on the night was as much in the saddle as equine as Dylan Kidd made his debut ride a winning one aboard Jungle Cove (106). In the process Jessica Harrington’s five-year-old posted the best data on the evening from an overall time and finishing effort perspective.

A closing sectional of 36.83s came courtesy of a dream run along the rail, which the fledgling rider seized with both hands to guide his mount home under hands and heels.

It is worth noting the run of the Ado McGuiness pair Casanova (105) and Saltonstall (101) who will likely head to Galway where they have tasted success in the past.

Pace collapse

Elsewhere on the card, Howyoulikethat (90) looked to benefit from a pace collapse to win the mile handicap, posting a closing sectional of 38.03s after being hard at work and making no impression passing the two-furlong marker. Ha Ha Ha (89) was given a fine front-running ride by Shane Foley to post a fast closing sectional of 37.44s off a slow pace.

For comparison purposes, Thornbrook (78) was successful on her debut in a slow time which comprised a closing sectional of 37.95s and Smaoineamh Sile (82) made it back-to-back wins at the Dublin track despite being the slowest finisher of the evening, her closing sectional being 40.30s.
